Why hire an editor?

I’ve learned a lot through my masters program in writing for children and young adults and I want to bring all that expertise to your dream project. Whether it’s middle grade or young adult, graphic literature, fiction or nonfiction children’s literature, I want to help you think developmentally and rigorously about your story’s strengths and weaknesses, and give you a plan for moving forward into the next draft.

I edit middle grade and young adult literature at a rate of approximately $155 per 10,000 words. Rates may vary by project so please use the contact form if you are interested in working with me.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

I edit with big picture craft elements in mind such as structure, characterization, and world building. However, I will also include line edits as I read. Every project has its own needs, but if you would like an example of the kind of feedback you can expect, you can click here.

What if I am unhappy with the feedback I receive?

I take editing very seriously, and I want a manuscript to be in stellar shape. Edits can sometimes feel overwhelming. To that end, I encourage only clients who are at a place in a manuscript where they feel they can really consider deep, thorough revisions and won’t be disappointed with substantial suggestions. That said, I do offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you are unhappy with the quality of the feedback, you will receive your money back.

What if I don’t have a complete manuscript?

I accept individual chapters as well as full manuscripts. You can turn in any length of work, and we can discuss possible directions for your story if brainstorming interests you. You will have the opportunity to let me know before we begin if there is anything specific you want to get out of these sessions.

What is the process like?

If you are interested in this service, you can use the contact form to ask any questions you might have before we begin. Once you decide this is the right next step for you, I will send you a contract for you to look over and sign with all the fine details of our agreement as well as various payment options. At this step, we will schedule a date for you to email your work to me. One week later, you will receive feedback and dive back into your creative work.

When can I expect my work back?

For a 10,000-word submission packet, you will always receive your work back within one week of the official submission date. Longer work may take up to two weeks. Submission and return dates will be decided mutually when drawing up the contract.
